anyone up for Monday, the 21st?
Hi Everyone,
I know a few of us just saw each other today, but the federal gov't is closed tomorrow, so we will be home. Would anyone like to come over at the usual 10 am time? We don't have too much in the way of food to offer -- a variety of crackers, cheddar cheese, and Ed may bake cookies.

Hello,
Is anyone free this Sunday morning? I'd be happy to host. Looking ahead, it appears that it will be rather cold.

tomorrow morning
If anyone is around tomorrow morning, we'd love to host folks. Its supposed to be beautiful out, so we can start inside and as it warms up, move out back (where there are leaves a-plenty for the kids to play in). Our pantry is pretty bare since we just got back into town, but I'll try to scrounge up some snacks for us and the kids. If you have time to RSVP, that would be great, but if not, just show up.

Get together Friday after T-giving?
Hi everyone,
for those of you staying in town this holiday weekend, I wondered if anyone would like to get together on Friday? Ed is working so I will have Ryan all day -- we definitely need to keep busy! I was thinking our usual 10 am time, but we could do afternoon as well.

Magic Show and new hours at Interactions
I tried to cut & paste their email, but it didn't work. So, FYI, Interactions are changing their weekday hours to 8:30 - 5:30, posting Sat. hours weekly, and hosting a Magic Show this Friday at 4:30. www.interactionslearnandplay.net

Tomorrow Morning at Getty Park
Since most of us were at Heather's this afternoon, I thought it might make more sense for the few of us who will be around tomorrow to just meet at Getty Park at 10. Its supposed to be sunny and a high of 72, so hopefully it will be a good morning for the playground.

FYI: Tiny Tots for Fall/Winter
Hi All,
We have done 2 different programs via MoCo Rec Dept: Aquatots and Funfit (Tiny Tots). We could not get into a wkend class for Aquatots this session, but are registering for Funfit 2 (ages 2-3) for Sat AMs at Tilden MS (off of 270-spur). Evan really got into it near the end of the 6 sessions... I think he'll enjoy right from the start this year. It really is a fun family activity (or Mommy-tot or Daddy-tot activity).
Anyway, here's the email I got. I had to call and talk to Mary Marshall at MoCoRec to get her approval for Evan to join since he is not 2 until the 15th, but all that means is that I fax in my registration instead of doing it online. (see below for form).

Just writing to apologize for the fact that Solomon and I have been mia the past couple of weekends and will probably not be there this weekend either. However, I'd like to volunteer to host on the 15th, since I know we'll be around then.

VERY short notice: TODAY, Sun 11/1 playgroup
Hope everyone had a fun Halloween and enjoyed their extra hour of rest as we fell back from DST.
Jessie, Cristina and I realized yesterday after the parade that noone was hosting Totgroup this week as far as we knew.
So, if you are free (and had the chance to read this), come over around 10am. We will play in the basement.
Ciao.

I finally updated my flickr site and there is a set on there called "Solomon and friends, Oct. 2009." Most of the pictures are from the last time the playgroup was at our house. Check them out at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/schwircksilver/ There are some really sweet pictures of the boys.

Please save your glass baby food jars!
Hello Tot Moms!
I volunteered to make my sister-in-law's baby shower favors. I am decorating glass baby food jars and filling them with candy, nuts, or candles.
Is anyone still giving their boys jarred food? If so, could you save me your jars when you are done with them? I need 40 to 50 in total!! I only have about 10 now.
Thanks!!

babysitter for this Thursday
We waited too long to get a babysitter for a concert we're seeing this Thursday and our few options are already busy. Any suggestions? Alternatively, this could be a good opportunity for a babysitting swap if anyone is intersted since we'd planned to put the kids to bed before we leave. So, this would be a late, but easy night & we could pick a date to reciprocate.
Let me know asap please!

Bear Costume
Hi Moms,
At totgroup 2 wks ago, Heather had brought over a bear costume -- about size 2T -- for anyone who was looking for a free costume. Noone grabbed it. It is still here. Anyone need a bear costume? Otherwise, I will post to the listservs of FE and SilverSpringMoms.
Ciao.

Sunday the 11th
Sorry we couldn't make it yesterday. After attending a reunion of my birthing class, my parents (who were in town) declared they'd had enough of visiting with other people's grandkids. Fortunately, they are gone now, and Solomon and I are up for hosting this Sunday. The moonbounce was a huge hit at the reunion, so perhaps we will schlep it out again (I recall all the kids being a little timid around it last time, but that was months ago, so my guess is that they've grown into it by now - I don't have to guess as to Solomon, I had to drag him out of it).

Hi All,
Evan reminded me that it is our turn to host. All of us are looking forward to seeing you. Weather.com reports mid- to high-70s so hopefully we can be in the backyard.
10ish to whenever. Cristina and Adrian are hoping to join. Let me know if you can make it.

sunday 9/20 - usual time 10ish
hi all, i would love to host this Sunday, if no one else has called dibs. the weather looks tentatively good, but rainy on Friday and Saturday (like our week at the beach, sigh), so i don't know how squishy the ground will be. either way, it's been a couple weeks since we've seen everyone, and it would be great to get together :)

Our first, and hopefully last, terrible school experience
I'm not about to post anything beyond our little playgroup site, but since I talked to a lot of you about my excitement in sending Solomon to Crossways Community Montessori this fall, I thought I would let you know that it was a complete bust. I'd be happy to talk to you, or anyone else you know who is considering it in more detail, but suffice to say, the well-run, thoughtful and nurturing environment that I encountered during my many visits was not on display during Solomon's first two days. So, he is back, safe and sound, in his nanny share, where he will remain until we decide what to do next.
We'll be away this weekend and have a playdate with some former co-workers on the 13th, so hopefully we will see you all the following week.

The retailer will begin accepting the used cribs, car seats, strollers, high chairs and other items on Friday, and will continue to do so until Sept. 20 at all Babies R Us and Toys R Us stores. There are no limits to the number of products that can be redeemed, and a person doesn't need to swap a like item for a like item. (In other words, you can bring in a car seat and get a discount on a play yard if you'd like.) Once collected, the products will be destroyed.

Sorry to change things around, but we got a last minute invitation to brunch with friends who are in town & Harry would really like to go (okay, I'd like to go too). We'd still love to see everyone, so hopefully 3:30 will work for a post-nap, pre-dinner gathering.
Playgroup tomorrow?
We got back a day early from vacation so have a full weekend to fill and would love to have folks over tomorrow. The house is in a post-vacation, pre-cleaning people state, but I'd still love to host. Drop me a line if you think you might come so I'll know how much snack to put out.

Truck Day at K-FG next Thursday
Heads Up: I have in my calendar that next Thursday (8/20) from 9a-11a is Truck Day at Kensington Forest Glen Daycare in the n'hood. I took Evan last year... he was a bit young to get into it, but I loved it! He is soooo into trucks now that I plan to take him this year, and head over to daycare a bit late.
Hopefully some of the other tots can come out that morning too with Mom, Dad, Nanny or Grandma.
Ciao.

Play Group on the 16th?
Mumps, wow!
On that note, I know we're at that time of year when lots of folks are on vacation . I can host on Sunday, August 16, if people will be around. As we get closer to that day, people can let me know if they can make it -- if no one's around then, I'll put it off until September, since we're going away at the end of August.

MUMPS
Hi Moms, just wanted to share the news that a child in Sebastain's daycare was just diagnosed with mumps. (Just one more disease to add to their roster of sicknesses they've had at that facility this year!!)
Good news is that a spot opened up for Sebastian at the NOAA facility in Silver Spring! What great timing!

Interactions Learn & Play
Hi Totgroup Moms --
FYI Evan and I dropped in to Interactions the other day and as always, had a blast. For those who have been, you know it is a great place for your kids to play, the owners (Werner and Christina) are friendly and gracious, and it is a nice respite both from the heat of summer and our same-ol-same-ol toys. For those who have not been, check it out: they have ball pits, moon bounce, slides, trains, instruments, dress up clothes, art-crafts area, etc. etc. Kids love it!
As you know, we don't have any connection to IL&P or the owners, we are just fans of the play-oasis they have created. While we were there this past week, the owners mentioned it was slower than they expected this summer as many of us have our kids in camps and/or daycare.
Evan is in daycare everyday, but luckily, there are a few days each month when I can pick him up early and head over for some fun before the dinner hour. (I've seen Jessie and Gunnar there and Werner mentioned one day that we missed Elaine and Judah by a few minutes.) They are also open on Sat mornings.
Anyway, wanted to remind Moms/Dads/Grandparents/Nannies of this jewel of an indoor play area for our kids. For more info on hours, rates, directions, etc. go to www.interactionslearnandplay.net.
Finally, we may want to consider a Totgroup Play Session there one Saturday in Aug. Shawn

Another reason to get swabbed...
Unfortunately, I will be out of town this weekend, but I contemplated doing a swab by mail when I read a posting on our neighborhood listserve re: one of our neighbors, a man who looks to be younger than we are, who is also in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant. In any case, I'm pretty sure that once you register as a donor, you are in the registry for all needed recipients. This guy also needs someone with Eastern European ancestry.
Helping Someone's Son
Hi Moms,
I saw the below email posted on our listserv last week and again on the SSMoms listserv this week. It was the phrase "our son" that caught my eye and thought as a parent, the least I could do is get swabbed to potentially help someone's son (or husband, or father, etc. etc.)
I plan to go to Rockville on Sunday afternoon sometime after TotGroup to get swabbed. If anyone else is interested / available to join in, I would be happy to carpool!
URGENT APPEAL: Please come this Sunday, July 26, 2009 to the JCC of Greater Washington, 6125 Montrose Rd., Rockville, Md., 10:00am - 4:00pm and register to be a bone marrow donor. This is an emergency. Our son, Jonathan, is in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant, and there are currently NO matches on the international registry. Potential donors must be between the ages of 18 - 55 and in good general health to register. We need a large turn out in order to find the one perfect match that can save his life. Jonathan, is of European Jewish descent, and there is a higher likelihood that his match will have the same ethnicity, but it can be anyone. The test is a simple swab of the cheek. SWAB A CHEEK = SAVE A LIFE. Thank you for your kind assistance, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Haupt. “To save one life is as if you have saved the world.” — the Talmud
