New Year's Eve Playgroup Bash

We had such a nice time on Saturday night drinking wine while the boys wrestled out their sugar highs that we thought we would do it again on New Year's Eve. Plus, our babysitters are not available, so we would greatly prefer to be stuck at home with all of you than by ourselves.

How about a potluck dinner starting at 5 pm? We'll provide the booze. Let me know if you can join us and what you'd like to bring.

free boo at the zoo tix - tonight!

hi guys,

gunnar is miserably sick, so we are not going to make boo at the zoo tonight. it opens at 5:30, and is a really really fun event. the tix were $20/each, so i hate to waste them. i have 3 tickets + the parking pass, and my friend nicole and her boyfriend have another 2 tickets. they are not super interested in going since we can't, so potentially 5 tix to anybody in playgroup!

please respond asap if you want them. if i don't hear from someone in playgroup, i'm gonna put them out to the neighborhood listserv :0). i just want someone's kids to enjoy this since ours can't. oh, and kids under 2 years old are free.

We were going to be busy entertaining my mother-in-law on Sunday, but she's not coming down because of the storm. So, if anyone wants to come out in the rain on Sunday morning, and experience the power-outage at our house, you are all welcome. We could also check in and see who among us has power and descend on that person....

Possible change in schedule for Th and Fri

Since the forecast is now for possibility of storms tomorrow afternoon, I am considering changing swimming to Friday. If anyone was planning on going, let me know so we can coordinate.

THIS Friday -- Dynamite Gym Open Gym

I also plan to take Evan to Open Gym at Dynamite Gym in Rockville on Friday (that is if we aren't swimming) during lunch hour (12:10 - 1p). Cost is $6/child for 50 mins. Fun gym, I must say.

Let me know if anyone is interested in joining. Maybe bounce and then lunch??

THIS Thursday - Glenmont / Wheaton HS pool

KFGCC is closed on Thurs and Fri. I promised Evan I would play hookie from work to play with him those two days. I am not bringing Chace as she will be in daycare.

Thursday, the MoCo's Glenmont pool opens at 12noon. We plan to eat an earlyish lunch and be there around 12noon to swim. It really is a great pool and I am hoping on a weekday, it won't be too crowded. Rain date is Friday. Hope you can join us if you are around and off that day.

Labor Day wkend -- anyone around?

Thank you everyone for celebrating Luc's brithday with us. He loved having all of you there and he thanks you for the gifts. He's still playing with the balloons - they are very facinating.

Sebastian had a blast in the pool with everyone. I think that was the last of the pool we'll see this year. There's always the bouncy castle :O)

Sunday morning and CSA Box

I was wondering if anyone wants to try to meet up on Sunday morning at Getty Park. We are having people over in the afternoon so I'm not up for actually hosting, but it would be fun to see everyone.

Also, we will be away next week, and won't be able to pick up our CSA box from Sandra Marquardt's house on Wednesday. If anyone would like it, please let me know and I will give you the details. We get the regular produce plus a dozen eggs.

Monday at Sandy Point

Hey Folks, Harry and I are going to take the boys to the beach at Sandy Point on Monday and I thought it would increase our fun and relaxation quotient if we and Solomon had friends to join us. So, if anyone is interested, we will plan to be there from around 10 to 2 (hoping to avoid the eastern shore traffic on the way home). Just saw this on "A Parent In Silver Spring" site. Evan and I hope to bike down there on Sunday afternoon. How cool is that!

Silver Spring Babysitting Co-op: New Members

Hi All,

As many of you know, we are members of the SSBC which means we swap sits with other SSBC families using chips instead of money. Since it is a co-op, you have to do both -- sit AND go out -- in order to have it work. We have been members for a year, but with Chace, I have used it twice to go out and have sat three times for SSBC families. Now that Chace is almost a year, we are hoping to use it more. In my experience, we have found that many families routinely sit for those that they know well and/or are comfortable with. Which of course makes me think of playgroup families.

In addition to our family, Sheila / Erik / Theo are members. I have sat for Sheila (which was actually a 2-hour playdate and dinner at our house).

Cristina / Felix / Adrian and Julian have been members (although I don't know if they still are given Cristina's Mom is now here). Cristina sat for us one evening, put Evan and Chace to bed and then hung out until we came home.

I would love to have more of our playgroup families involved. It costs only $12/year, which is approximately 1 - 1.5 hours of a babysitter's time!

Our next SSBC monthly social is MONDAY, MAY 30th (Memorial Day Wkend) at Rosemary Hills Elementary School playground. We usually let the kids play and then parents get to know eachother so that sittees and sitters and kids know who is whom. If you are around, please plan to come to the social and meet families to see if this would work for you and your family.

I know it may be hard to think of a time when we can pull ourselves away from our kids to watch someone elses, but you know, we deserve a night or two out that doesn't cost a fortune and the co-op is a way to extend the village that it takes to raise our kids. =)

Friday: Pre-Mother's Day playgroup/HH

Hi All.

Since Sunday is Mother's Day, we thought we would host on Friday night for a BBQ / HH / playgroup in our backyard.

We will have meat: sausages / hot dogs plus fixin's and drinks for kids (milk, water, juice) and adults (same plus soda, wine/beer). Jessie said she could bring a salad. Michelle and Cristina said they were available.

Hope you can make it. We will be home from daycare at 530p, so come over at that time or anytime after. Jon gets home at 630p, but I will have grillables going before then to accomodate kids (and hungry adults). Weather is supposed to be high of 66' and partly cloudy... sounds great to me.

Two Things: Babysitting Co-op and Daylight Savings

Hi all. As you know, we joined the SS Babysitting Coop last year. We have used it twice thus far -- once to sit, once to go out. Cristina sat for us when we went out. =) Our goal is to go out more now that Chace is older. (DateNight!DateNight!DateNight!)

FYI, SSBC has openings. It costs $12 for the year and then you get chips that you swap with other SSBC families to sit for you or for you to sit for them. Monthly fun get togethers are held so you can meet other parents (and their kids). Some families are very active... usually those with older kids. Some are just getting into the swing of it... like us. Sheila/Erik/Theo are members as is/was Cristina/Felix/Adrian/Julian(Conrad). Some of you may know Nuala and her family who are also members. If any of you are interested in joining, contact Anita Wiler at anitawiler@hotmail.com. She can send you more info. It would be great to have more SSBC members who live here and that we know and know our kids. Just makes for easier sits, but know you have the whole pool of coop members to work with.

On a completely different subject, just a reminder that we are hosting playgroup on Sunday. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour. While that means one less hour of sleep, it means one hour SOONER that we see all of you on Sunday. Yippee! We hope to be in the backyard which might still be a bit muddy with all this rain, so please plan to dress as if mud is fun.
